That's a Inuyasha review. I did a search for Excel on that site, didn't get any hits for Excel Saga.

The review for volume 20 seems to have disappeared. O_o Strange.

It's true! It was so nice to see a thoughtful review of ES, too! Alas... it must have under the strain.

Let me state up front, I have not read every volume of the manga, though I did watch the anime several times over. (I own manga vol. 1 3-6 15-20)
I recently re-read 5, then 19-20, and I find the manga has greatly improved. Seeing Elgala's rise and fall was positively delicious; I find women who focus on materialism and fashion very irritating, though I tend towards the opposite extreme.
Many people have commented on how cruel Ilpalazzo is to Excel; but to me, their relationship is not very interesting, and Ilpalazzo is kind of a boring character who is rarely shown doing anything... something the anime made fun of by having him take up hobbies while Excel and Hyatt were away on missions.
No, the most interesting relationship is between Excel and Elgala, particularly now when they have been cast out of ACROSS and help each other survive. I like it how they can't seem to stand each other, are rivals, have opposing personalities and yet continue to stay together.
My favorite panel is "exhausted Elgala", after she broke out in shrieking hysterical laughter after seeing the skull vision of herself in the mirror. (I am "on the road" and do not have the manga for reference) Even her lips look dry and cracked, her eyes glassy. She tugs at my heartstrings!
I gotta admit, one pretty girl beating up another is kinda arousing, at least in manga. Excel = dom, Elgala = sub ;-> The haunted house inspection is definitely my favorite Act (episode?). The wait for the next volume is gonna be killer.

I actually agree with you. A lot. Welcome to the board!

I agree. I for example, do not care for relationship between them either... however I still can honestly say, that Il Palazzo is a dick to Excel.
I also agree that IlPala seems pretty boring. Supposedly there's all this mystery surrounding him, from which we can dig out hundred of theories. He seems to be also batshit crazy, in a cool, calm and composed kind of way... but yet, he just mostly sits around, talks in riddles, laughs at pictures of statues resembling Kabapu, and sometimes uses teleporation or holograms. He's nothing special, considering there are much more interesting charas... like friggin' Kabapu for example. Still, I like him. If only, because I LOVED HIM in the anime. Or maybe I'm just actracted to his bishieness? Because I like bishies... they make me feel warm. : >
Also, as much as I like hilarious interactions between Excel and Elgala, I much more prefer the ones that Miwa has with Gojyou(Shiouji).
