http://www.mangagamer.com/main/"The release date for the upcoming game, "Higurashi when they cry" has been decided to December 15, 2009. This release will be the first 4 chapters of the original smash hit game made by 07th Expansion and will be sold for 36.95 Euros." Just one more week. One more week until the original Higurashi VN comes out in English. Any of you getting this?

Her.. hands! O_O
7th Expansion's art style in their games is much to be desired from what I've seen so far. But this is something I could look past though if the quality of the game was good.

If you mean quality of gameplay, you'll be severely disappointed. Because it's not a game, and I don't see why people refer to it as such. It's a visual novel (basically, an electronic picture book with occasional user input). People like it because it is well written and generally more interesting than its anime adaptation.

Isn't that supposed to be a connection between the two stories?

That would be interesting. But Ryukishi07 tries to keep Umineko separate from Higurashi.
In the Umineko VN world, Higurashi was just a regular book. In Umineko anime world, Higurashi was an anime that Maria was watching.
The only 2 characters that really connect the stories are the witches Bernkastel and Lambdadelta. They said that they used to play some "game" and it might have been the battle between Rika and Takano. Bernkastel is also similar to Frederica Bernkastel, the witch that Rika herself mentioned in Higurashi Rei.
There is also Featherinne Augustus Aurora who kind of looks like Hanyuu. She has a crescent floating around her head that resembles horns, and "Augustus Aurora" can be shortened to "Au Au" (Hanyuu's catchphrase), but it's all probably just a parody.

If I remember correctly, in the Higurashi VN world, Higurashi is a VN. Shit's extremely meta.
The Okonogi thing is probably just a reference, but the Bernkastel stuff still has me wondering...
